I’ll Love You and Squeeze You and Name You George

My wonderful sister gave me the most glorious present ever for Christmas: The America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. I had no idea this particular cookbook existed and it has not left my sight since I opened it Christmas morning. I made 2 recipes from it that very morning not minutes after I’d cracked the cover. I’ve since made 3 more recipes from it (technically 4…). I took it with me on my trip to Idaho. I read it on the 3 hour drive up and have continued to peruse it throughout the day. I’ve carried it with me throughout the house and made sure to keep it safe from dirty countertops and small children. I may have to kick Seth out of bed so it’ll have its own pillow to sleep on at night.

I realize I’m insane. Insanely nerdy is probably more like it. I realize all of this and yet, I can’t help it. Why? When did this love of all things food become an obsession? And why do you all keep enabling me?! You’re enablers you know. It’s YOUR fault.

Now that we’ve got all that out of the way, let’s talk about my new pal! I’ve seen America’s Test Kitchen’s other cookbook (that I made mention of here) which was more of a synopsis of all their tv shows and such, but had no idea this “family cookbook” even existed. This cookbook is more of a basic, everyday cookbook containing recipes for everything from basic sauces and omelets to pies and pasta. Everything in it looks delicious and I’m having a hard time not making everything in it right now!

So, be prepared for a lot more America’s Test Kitchen recipes in the future. The flood gate of recipes is about to open… brace yourselves…

    Oh boy! That is pretty exciting. I can guess that you’ll be spending a LOT of time in the kitchen measuring out just the right amounts of … whatevers. And poaching and blanching and prepping. You can feel free to bring whatever you can’t finish over to our house! 🙂

    That sounds like a great book! Have you ever heard of the book The Flavor Bible? My friend just told me about it and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Google it!

      I’d never heard of that book! I just looked it up and it looks like it’d be a great tool to have though! I haven’t delved into the self-created recipes realm much, so it would be helpful to have something that would tell me which ingredients work well together and which ones don’t. Curses… now I need that book too!

        Ok so I ended up getting a Barnes and Noble gift card from my in-laws and spent my portion on this book! I’m so excited for it to come! I also ordered one called “Ratios: The Simple Codes Behind the Craft of Everyday Cooking.” It’ll be interesting to try this stuff out!

    I’m afraid to admit this, but… I’m so excited about The Flavor Bible I’m nervous to actually take a look at it.

    I’m not sure I’m ready for how awesome it would be.

    I think I may have to wait to read and receive its awesomeness.

    Only… I ALSO received a B&N gift cert. this Xmas. Is this another message from Jesus?
